Record Player

Vertere SG-1 Super Groove

Bringing music to life in the home, Vertere’s Record Player SG-1 Super Groove can take you close to perfection in turntable performance

Vertere’s Record Player SG-1 Super Groove is designed and built to exactly the same high standards as the RG-1 Reference Groove.

As with RG-1, using the best possible materials and the highest standards of precision, every single component is specially engineered and custom built.

Why Record Player SG-1 Super Groove?

  • Has the heart and body of the RG-1, unrivalled in its own right and second only to RG-1
  • Plays every note with the intended emotion and maximum dynamics in any home environment
  • Provides an upgrade pathway to RG-1 without compromise if required

Main bearing assembly

Directly derived from the unparalleled RG‐1 main Bearing, the SG-1 performs second only to the RG‐1.

Based on the same design, geometry and similar precision engineering techniques, the SG‐1 bearing is made to their highest standards.

Both RG‐1 & SG‐1 main bearings are lubricated with Vertere proprietary formulated L‐1G record player main bearing oil.

Record player motor

One look at the record player motor assembly and the depth and innovativeness of its design become apparent.

Using precision bearings to articulate the proprietary aluminium alloy motor housing keeps the motor continuously synchronous achieving constant belt tension.

Simply put, it drives the platter at constant speed without interference

Main platter

RG-1 platter assembly is a unique two piece super precision machined aluminium alloy design that provides friction-only damping of the platter assembly.

The main platter has a critically designed surface profile on its top side that perfectly matches the underside of the reference platter insert.

The two parts fit so precisely that the assembly creates a linearly damped, non‐resonant structure.

SG-1 Mk III Motor Drive

Vertere SG-1 Super Groove power

It is absolutely critical that the record player motor is powered and controlled faultlessly to ensure a full and musical performance of the record player.

The SG-1 MkIII Motor Drive has new enhanced circuitry for speed accuracy, power delivery.

The MkII utilises two fully protected output power devices with much improved control of the motor.

The new output circuit provides the platter with constant and smoother drive. Elegant and simple to use with a ‘super charged’ engine under its bonnet!

SG-1 Record Player dust cover

There is an optional dust cover that fully encloses the RG-1 while aesthetically complimenting the elegant lines and design of the record player.

The main section covering the top, front and the back is a one piece 6mm clear cast acrylic providing support and rigidity with cut-outs for motor drive and tonearm cables.

The sides are made from 3mm clear cast acrylic also including hand-grip cut-outs for easy placement and removal of the cover.

A Vertere emblem, laser engraved on the top adds the finishing touch to this elegant and practical record player dust cover.

Special Metallic Finishes

Vertere Special Metallic Black, Pearlescent White & Champagne finishes are now available for the SG-1 record player at a premium.

Following in the footsteps of the RG-1, these lustrous, vibrant colours provide perfect alternatives to the original Clear finish of the SG-1.

Clear cast acrylic was carefully selected for SG-1’s plinth material as it provides the most stable and acoustically suitable platform for all its critical components.

The specially formulated paint and method of printing of these glistening finishes enhance the aesthetics without any compromise in performance of the SG-1 record player.

The Vertere emblem printed on the top plinth adds the final finishing touch.

Key feature of the Vertere Record Player SG-1 Super Groove is the same structural coherence as you find on the RG-1 Reference Groove.

Both record players use the same high-speed synchronous motor and they have the same structural design, incorporating compliance that isolates the record-playing platform from unwanted movements, whether internally or externally induced.

The external motor drive power supply unit ensures constant speed and smooth running of the motor, which in turn is enclosed and articulated in exactly the same way as with the RG-1.

The differences between the SG-1 Super and the RG-1 Reference are in the bearing and platter assembly.

The SG-1 platter system makes use of a high-grade one-piece aluminium alloy platter with a 3mm thick bonded acrylic facing to provide the record interface.

The main bearing of the SG-1 utilises a precision ground hardened stainless steel spindle and a super precision tungsten carbide ball.

The SG-1 shares the same plinth structure design and components as used on the RG-1 and provides the optimum platform for the tonearm and cartridge to work on.

There is a pathway to upgrade the SG-1 to the RG-1, by simply replacing the main bearing and platter assemblies if and when desired.

The Record Player SG-1 Super Groove will bring any record collection to life and provide many years of musical enjoyment.

Vertere Acoustics

Vertere Acoustics Reducing engineering to its fundamentals, to get you even closer to the original recording

When aiming to reproduce the complexities of music, it’s all too easy to introduce even greater complication in the engineering of audio equipment, putting in place one element to solve the problems of another until the whole design escalates into something fiendishly intricate – and expensive!

That’s not the Vertere way: coming at the whole problem with decades of audio and mechanical engineering experience, plus close collaboration with the recording and mastering industry, they step back, take a long hard look at the fundamentals, and look for simple, elegant solutions.

That may sound like a simple ‘less is more’ philosophy, but they prefer to look at it this way: the best audio equipment shouldn’t add anything to the original recording. Rather it should affect it as little as possible; bringing the listener ever closer to what the artist, producer and mastering engineer wanted you to hear.

Working with music industry professionals, they have access to master tapes and the acetates made in the production of records, and can compare the way the engineers heard them with the way they sound on their record players and via their cables. Vermeer Acoustics are constantly learning about how records are mixed, mastered, cut and pressed, and applying that knowledge to the way we design and build Vertere products.

The fundamentals of a record player are pretty much set in stone, in that a record needs to turn at a certain speed, and the stylus needs to follow the groove and allow the cartridge to convert its undulations into electrical signals with what is literally microscopic accuracy. However, just because those are the basics, that doesn’t mean there’s only one way to achieve them – which is why we take a long hard look, apply our ‘do no evil’ way of thinking, and endeavour to develop simpler, innovative solutions.

That’s why you’ll find their record players look different, both outwardly and in some of the engineering solutions you’ll probably never see. It’s all a matter of stripping down the engineering to those fundamentals by considering the absolute essence of how a record player works – from re-examining the way a cartridge gets its energy to ensuring it extracts maximum information from a groove that’s trying to throw it off track over a thousand times a centimetre.

So yes, the way they design and build their products is unique, but it’s not all about being eye-catching (even if we have to admit we think they look rather good): we hope you’ll find they sound just as unique, too, simply by bringing you even more of the music
