Burmester 217
Turntable
The 217 is Burmester’s first turntable introduced to its renowned Top Line series.
The 217 prioritises optimal playback quality above all – and utilises highly intuitive operability.
During the research and development process of the 217, Burmester was able to draw on more than 35 years of processing experience with the highest-quality phono signal and make excellent use of its know-how to offer a broader product portfolio in the vinyl playback field.
With attention to detail
The 217 stands out through the iconic Burmester chrome front but otherwise aims for complete simplicity.
Burmester 217 Main Features
The 217 is equipped with two belt drive motors, which enable near-perfect operation due to their high efficiency.
In combination with the significant, massive, low-resonance unibody housing made of solid aluminium, this enables exceptionally precise and highly musical reproduction of vinyl records.
Burmester’s 217 turntable builds on its big brother, the 175, in numerous aspects.
The unit has a gimbal-mounted, straight tonearm that is naturally cranked by the geometry of the head-shell.
At the same time, the exact length between bearing and needle tip is 239.1 mm – just over 9 inches.
The tonearm is made of unidirectional fibre composite material in conjunction with aluminium components.
The needle used is a Shibata design and the signal from the cartridge is passed on directly via a high-quality phono connection cable.
Each 217 comes with a turntable mat made of composite leather, along with a pre-assembled tonearm including the Moving Coil cartridge system.

Ultimately, it was his demand for quality and his spirit of innovation that led to the formation of Burmester Audiosysteme GmbH in 1978.
Had Dieter Burmester not been so exacting and at the same time so creative, he would probably not have decided to design-engineer his own amplifier. Since he no longer considered using a hi-fi amplifier featuring tube technology, given relatively severe distortions, low damping factor compared with low-frequency membranes and rapid ageing, Burmester incorporated op-amp technology, modelled on modern measuring instruments, into his amp. Ultimately it was his high quality standards and spirit of innovation that led in 1978 to the establishment of Burmester Audiosysteme GmbH and which still form the basis of the company’s philosophy to this day. An unwillingness to compromise on the choice of components and the quality of workmanship combined with the principle of only launching a product if it represents a clear technical enhancement, compared with competitors’ products.
