New budget moving coil range carves a new niche in affordable sound. The Quintet Series of Moving Coil (MC) phono pick-up cartridges from Ortofon are a direct result of the company’s continued research and innovation in the field of micro-engineering. The all-new range of cartridges includes 5 models, harmonizing with Ortofon’s existing Cadenza Series of premium MC cartridges, and the iconic 2M range of Moving Magnet designs. The Quintet Mono, Quintet Red, Quintet Blue, Quintet Bronze and Quintet

The Technology

A special ABS (Acrylonitrile / Butadiene / Styrene) thermoplastic material is used to manufacture each Quintet body. This light-weight, impact-resistant material is well-suited to injection moulding, and provides a very durable, scratch-resistant surface. Internally, neodymium magnets are employed to allow the cartridge to achieve an optimal output, while the low internal impedance design ensures the cartridge is less sensitive to load; meaning any Quintet Series cartridge can be easily partnered with a wide range of phono stages and transformers.

The .” _mounting design allows for easy set-up with most tonearm / headshell combinations. The aluminium top-plate has threaded mounting holes and easily accommodates the two sets of screws supplied (5mm and 7mm). The Quintet Series’ right angles, straight lines and ample stylus clearance not only allow for good stylus visibility, but it also means more intricate settings, such as accurate azimuth alignment, are easier to achieve.

Ortofon

A great Danish success story began in 1918...

In the beginning was the sound track

On the 9th of October 1918, the two Danish engineers, Axel Petersen (1887-1971) and Arnold Poulsen (1889-1952) founded the Electrical Phono Film Company with a few capable and foresighted businessmen who would support the organization financially. Their aim was to explore the possibility of high-class recording and developing one of the first synchronized sound film systems in the world. Under primitive conditions, the two Danish engineers and their small staff had to solve a number of what were considered insuperable problems
