Pro-Ject Phono Box RS

The Phono Box RS represents Pro-Ject Audio’s first foray into the world of high-end electronics. As masters of the analogue domain, it seems only fitting that their first model in this new Reference Series range is a phono stage of true distinction.

The Phono Box RS is an ultra-low noise and distortion preamplifier made with the audio connoisseur in mind. With this in mind, it offers not only a breathtaking performance, but is also capable of being fine-tweaked to suit a wide variety of premium pick-up cartridges. In fact, the Phono Box RS has a unique variable impedance control on the front panel which means impedance adjustments can now be done during music playback!

Due to the use of some of the finest quality components available, like the SSM2019 pre-amplifier from Analog Devices on the input stages and Linear Technology’s LT1010 as a high current buffer stage, the Phono Box RS delivers ultra-low levels of distortion and noise. Its very low output impedance makes it insensitive to the selection of interconnect cable types and lengths.

Fully-passive RIAA and DECCA equalisation is selectable via the stylish switches on the front panel, as is the output Gain (on XLR and RCA) and a handy Mute function (the F/V switch relates to switching on and off the variable impedance control). Further cartridge adjustment is done via the familiar dip-switch layout on the back panel. The Phono Box RS offers fully balanced, dual-mono circuitry and both XLR and RCA inputs and outputs, earning it recognition in a wide variety of high-end systems.

Pro-Ject was founded in 1991, during the onslaught of the compact disc and CD players, with the mission to offer the best analogue experience for reasonable prices. The best way to start there is with a proper turntable. They want to give the customers back the right to choose what they need, without overblowing their products with unnecessary features. At Pro-Ject they strive to create astonishing products with impeccable value. They only use the best components for the price and manufacture their handmade goods solely in Europe. With an eye for future trends they are always trying to fit the needs of the market. With an unexpected hit-review of the Pro-Ject 1, the success-story began its first major chapter. With the gaining popularity and interest, more and more international distributors began to make Pro-Ject turntables available in their countries.
