Problems – of the power grid

In the urban power grid, there are significant low and high frequency electrical interfering fields flowing from the power lines into the devices and then distributing to all Hi-Fi devices of the audio system via the cable connections.

In addition, directly within the domestic power grid there are critical electrical consumers (switching power supplies, computers, energy-saving lamps, refrigerators, heating systems, cooktops, routers, AV systems, etc.), which feed massive low and high-frequency interfering fields into the power grid distributing to all HiFi devices via the cables.

Common solution approaches and their limitations

A common approach in the power sector is the use of line filters, conditioners and grid generators, which are operated in front of the Hi-Fi equipment, so that interfering fields should not reach the devices via the power grid.

However, current pulse peaks are often over 20 times the power consumption of the devices, so at a total power consumption of the audio system of only 500 W, the current pulse peaks can be over 10,000 W.

Even generously designed with several 1000W line filters or grid generators therefore limit the dynamic flow of music in high-quality audio systems.

Even with parallel current filters and not just in the signal path lying in-line power filters, it comes to transmission delay effects, since required components such as capacitors, diodes, etc. absorb energy and release it again with a time delay.

In addition, line filters often do not allow the inner interferences caused by the hi-fi devices themselves to escape to the outside due to their blocking function.

The use of common power-cleansing measures is always fraught with compromises that block the way to a higher level.

The PROTECTORS and GUARDS for the connection to the HiFi components (COMPONENT) actively protect the sensitive audio signal from degrading interfering field influences inside the devices and expand existing ground solutions with a bidirectional connection line, minimising complex equalising currents and grounding disturbances between the individual components of the chain

Problem of electrical interference of audio devices

Via power supplies, transformers, etc. the hi-fi devices themselves generate electrical interfering fields, in the immediate vicinity of the signal-transmitting components.

In addition, the different power consumptions of the individual devices cause sound-damaging potential equalisation currents, which are distributed to all devices via the cable connections.

Furthermore, via the cables and device housings high frequency interfering fields from the environment radiate directly into the signal path of the devices and massively degrade sound reproduction quality.

Common solution approaches and their limitations

EMI

In order to protect the sensitive audio signal inside the devices against impairment, developers of high grade devices try hard to keep interfering fields low inside of the devices by use of very low stray field components or by shielding enclosures.

Power filter or grid generators may help keep external interfering fields originated from the power grid away from the device, but the inner interfering fields, caused by the equipment itself and close to the audio signal, cannot be cleared up this way.

High-frequency interfering fields, radiating from the environment via the housings of the Hi-Fi devices and the cables into the signal path, are not detected at all by upstream filters.

Previous ground solutions work by reducing potential equalisation currents by discharging to protective grounding or a common central ground potential.

Due to the nature of the system, such ground solutions do not have bidirectional connection lines to prevent interfering field transmission between the audio devices.

In addition, any discharging to protective grounding opens another window for interferences already present on protective ground to enter the audio system.

From the outside by the mobile phone network and electrical appliances from your own home or neighbour (routers, DECT phones, WLAN, mobile, network, bus systems, streamer, etc) high-frequency interferences radiate directly through the device housings or cables in the signal path of the audio system.

Common solution approaches and their limitations

High-frequency filters in the signal path of the devices limit the bandwidth and thus the natural overtone spectrum of the audio system.

Shieldings and discharging to protective grounding is effective only in the lower high-frequency range and ineffective in the crucial gigahertz range.

High-frequency shielding of the entire room even amplifies the high-frequency load by the in-room radio-controlled devices.

So-called atmospheric information applications of energised crystals, glass bodies, chips (energy cells) or frequency resonators etc.

Just have a dampening effect on high frequencies, whereby high-frequency interference is merely perceived as less disturbing.

Their effectiveness is limited and not only positive in the long term.

The comparison with the SCHNERZINGER GIGA CANCELLING technology immediately and clearly shows the limits of these only error-compensating applications.

In the 60’s Georg Frederik Schnerzinger already worked on new energy transmission methods and as a music lover he also developed high quality sound concepts.

The results of his research directed him to the perception, that a "phase stable signal transmission“ is of fundamental importance for an unbiased transport of electrical information – an insight, audiophile circles attach adequate importance not until most recent years. G. F. Schnerzinger called this study "Phasen-Wächter-Forschung" (phase guard research); in the 70‘s he was appointed honorary citizen in the U.S.A. Early he infected his grandson Dirk Klocke, today the moving spirit within the SCHNERZINGER® audio team, with his striving for sophisticated music reproduction. At the age of 9 at his communion he received his first high quality hi-fi system from his grandfather. After his own years of apprenticeship, while he always searched for the ultimate, G. F. Schnerzinger arranged a stay with Jason Bloom for his grandson. Together with Leo Spiegel Jason had founded Apogee Acoustics, perhaps the most innovative and acknowledged speaker manufacturer in the 80’s.
