Hard Disk. Where do you store your CD collection? On shelves? In a cupboard? Sometimes scattered, on the floor? With UnitiServe, every CD you own can be stored, catalogued and ready to play at the press of a key, the click of a mouse or the touch of an iPhone.

UnitiServe is a compact, slot-loading, CD ripping, hard disk music player and server based on the technology of the multi-award-winning Naim HDX. It takes the fundamentals of the HDX; a massive internal hard disk drive, Naim bit-perfect ripping, Ethernet connection, UPnPTM server, StreamNet technology and local digital outputs, and combines them with a set of features perfectly suited to music in the home of today, and tomorrow.

All things to all music lovers
An audio system can grow around UnitiServe. It can replay ripped CDs into a digital input-equipped amplifier, such as the SUPERNAIT or a digital to analogue converter like Naim’s DAC, for example, with all the engaging Naim musical insight, musical performance and clarity you would expect. In addition the UnitiServe can operate as a UPnPTM server to stream audio to any UPnPTM playback device over a home network, such as NaimUniti or UnitiQute, to create a simple and fantastic sounding multi-room system. And for those wanting to put sound quality at the centre of whole-home control, UnitiServe is StreamNet-enabled and can also function as the heart of a sophisticated IP-based NaimNet* multi-room system. However you choose to use UnitiServe, it can be controlled by an iPhone or iPod touch device running a dedicated Naim app, a touch screen, or a computer anywhere on the home network either via a web browser or the Naim Desktop Client application.

CD liberation
UnitiServe is not just limited to CD format audio or its internal storage. It can also play back audio from a USB memory stick and will scan the network for music stored on NAS drives or network shares in WAV, AIFF, FLAC, ALAC, OGG Vorbis, AAC, WMA and MP3 formats at up to 24bit/192kHz resolution. A variant of the UnitiServe – the UnitiServe-SSD is also available. The UnitiServe-SSD has no internal hard-disk storage and is intended for use in network systems where ripped data is stored exclusively on NAS drives.

Welcome to the future

Technology serving music
Naim’s unrivalled expertise in digital audio; expertise that had its beginnings in the Naim CDS, the first genuine high-end audio CD player, is at the heart of the UnitiServe. It extracts the data from CDs using unique, in-house developed techniques and algorithms to ensure that the ripped data represents a faultless replica of the CD. The data is then stored on a 1TB internal hard disk with space for up to 1200 CDs, or on an external Network Attached Storage (NAS) with potential for space that can easily out pace your music collection. UnitiServe also stores the metadata (artwork, track titles, artists, performers, composers) for all ripped CDs, regardless of their storage location, automatically downloaded from allmusic.com. The Naim Extended Music Database format means that music can be found easily by searching for any stored parameter. You’ll never lose track of a CD again.

But there’s far more to UnitiServe performance than bit-perfect CD ripping and storage. Its external power supply is designed to minimise mains injected noise and it incorporates a decoupled hard-disk assembly that both minimises noise and any possibility of disturbance from external vibration. Digital signal management within the UnitiServe is based on techniques developed for the Naim HDX and the digital outputs on the CD5 XS and CDX2 CD players. UnitiServe is a true Naim product that deploys highly innovative and advanced technology simply to serve the music.

Naim Audio

Naim Audio Their story begins with one man’s passion for music and weaves its way through four decades and a raft of iconic product launches to the present day. Naim Audio founder Julian Vereker MBE (1945-2000) was a racing car driver, entrepreneur and self-taught engineer with a deep passion for music. Spending his spare time listening to and recording his friends playing live in the 1960s, Julian found that playback on his system at home fell woefully short of the experience he craved. Not content with second best he decided to design his own amplifiers and loudspeakers, ignoring accepted wisdom and focusing on aspects of performance that made music burst to life. These first designs laid the foundations for a range of iconic and award-winning hi-fi products that would reach well into the next century. 1972 A first start at Capital Radio Julian won a contract to supply then start-up radio station, Capital Radio, with audio equipment. The successful design was a compact version of an early Naim Audio power amplifier combined with speaker drive units in one cabinet – the NAM 502 1973 Naim Audio Officially Founded Following the success of Capital Radio, Naim Audio was officially incorporated in 1973 with Julian Vereker and his co-founder Shirley Clarke as directors. Based in a shop in the centre of Salisbury, our first HQ had both manufacturing and demonstration facilities. 1973 The NAP 200 Power Amplifier Naim Audio's first consumer product for home use was launched in the year of our founding: the NAP 200 power amplifier. Originally designed in 1971, its descendant’s power amplifiers differ greatly technologically but still aim for the same performance goals of pace, rhythm and timing 1974 The NAC 12 Preamplifier With a network of dedicated independent retailers now on board in the UK, the NAC 12, our first production preamplifier, was launched. 1980 Classic Advertising As Naim Audio grew in popularity through the 70s and early 80s, the team decided to grab the attention of the press and public with a series of tongue-in-cheek adverts. They reflected the confident, often unorthodox nature of our approach to music playback and have become iconic in their own right. 1983 NAIT Integrated Amplifier Naim Audio’s first integrated amplifier the NAIT introduced. This iconic little integrated amp sounded quite unlike any other integrated of its day and set a trend for so-called ‘super integrateds 1985 The Queen's Award Naim Audio is recognised with the prestigious Queen’s Award for the first time in 1985. We would go on to repeat this achievement a further two times in the 21st century, winning for Export in 2010 and for Innovation in digital music streaming in 2014. 1991 The CDS CD Player Like so many Naim Audio products, the design of our first CD player, the CDS, flew in the face of conventional wisdom. Its Two-box configuration gave the power supply its own separate enclosure and the CD clamp used a rare earth magnet to keep its mass low whilst still firmly holding the disc without vibration 2000 NAP 500 Power Amplifier The year 2000 marked a step change in Naim Audio history. After several years in development, the new flagship Naim Audio NAP 500 power amplifier was born and with it the new industrial design aesthetic that would redefine Naim Audio for the 21st century. Its music-making ability would only be bettered by the arrival of Statement in 2014.
