Naim NAP 250 Audio Venue

Naim Audio’s iconic amplifier: back and better than ever.

In production since 1975, the Naim NAP 250 power amplifier has gained iconic status.

This new sixth-generation model delivers more power than ever before; state of the art engineering provides unrivalled performance, greater system-matching and flexibility.

Designed & built in the UK, it is ready to drive the speakers of your choice — taking your music to new heights.

Naim NAP 250

To get the best out of your loudspeakers and music, combine the NSC 222 with its perfect partner, the NAP 250 power amplifier.

The cutting-edge engineering work involved in the NAP 250 results in unrivalled performance.

It delivers 100 watts of A/B class power per channel, fully adjustable to set your music free in the most remarkable way.

The best of Naim

The cutting-edge design of the NAP 250 means it can be used even at high sound levels, its heat sink reacts to the increased volume, keeping the product “cool”.

Other improvements include the addition of symmetrical XLR connections and a series of technologies derived from Naim’s iconic Statement amplifier, including a eddy current separator available between the loudspeaker outputs.

It also incorporates the Naim Audio DR (Discrete Regulator) technology found in the Statement, to benefit from the stable, fluid power supply they know to be essential.

Naim know-how

Under the guidance of their Technical Director, Naim’s specialist engineers have developed simple but elegant circuits, combined with their acclaimed and high-performing DR technology, guaranteeing the stable and fluid power supply so essential for superior performance.

Their teams opt for the highest-quality components and perform ultra-precise measurements for an uncompromising result.

Perfect integration in a complete system

The NAP 250 can be connected to any of the New Classic products, but also to the previous Classic lines using a new range of specific cabling.

Above all, it is the perfect partner for the NSC 222 preamplifier and streamer.

Key Features

Can be used with legacy products via the legacy range of cables.

  • Separate DR PSUs for power amplifier, including the XLR input stage.
  • Eight NA009 Naim custom designed power transistors as developed for Statement (4 for the PSUs and 4 for the output stages). Each mounted on ceramic insulators for ultra low capacitive coupling.
  • New triple transistor constant current source (CCS)in delicate gain stage – uses a newly developed CCS for improved sound quality.
  • Party-proof: new heatsink design responds to temperature fluctuation, keeping things cool.
  • 20 minute auto power off for legacy systems, will wake on detecting music (auto off can be disabled).
  • 0.5W standby power Using two internal power supplies; one is a high quality audiophile linear type, based on a large toroidal transformer.
  • The other is a highly efficient SMPSU for 0.5W power consumption in standby during standby mode.
  • Soft-start power up sequence, preventing the large toroidal transformers from tripping mains circuit breakers due to the large influx of voltage required.
  • 3.5mm optical inter-product communications for synchronised system control, preventing ground loops. This facility offers LED brightness and power control.
  • Eddy current divide situated between speaker output terminals for improved sound quality.
  • Custom audiophile components such as polystyrene capacitors in filter circuits for low dielectric absorption.
  • Through-hole components reducing microphonies picked up via the circuit board fluctuations.

Naim Audio

Naim Audio Their story begins with one man’s passion for music and weaves its way through four decades and a raft of iconic product launches to the present day. Naim Audio founder Julian Vereker MBE (1945-2000) was a racing car driver, entrepreneur and self-taught engineer with a deep passion for music. Spending his spare time listening to and recording his friends playing live in the 1960s, Julian found that playback on his system at home fell woefully short of the experience he craved. Not content with second best he decided to design his own amplifiers and loudspeakers, ignoring accepted wisdom and focusing on aspects of performance that made music burst to life. These first designs laid the foundations for a range of iconic and award-winning hi-fi products that would reach well into the next century. 1972 A first start at Capital Radio Julian won a contract to supply then start-up radio station, Capital Radio, with audio equipment. The successful design was a compact version of an early Naim Audio power amplifier combined with speaker drive units in one cabinet – the NAM 502 1973 Naim Audio Officially Founded Following the success of Capital Radio, Naim Audio was officially incorporated in 1973 with Julian Vereker and his co-founder Shirley Clarke as directors. Based in a shop in the centre of Salisbury, our first HQ had both manufacturing and demonstration facilities. 1973 The NAP 200 Power Amplifier Naim Audio's first consumer product for home use was launched in the year of our founding: the NAP 200 power amplifier. Originally designed in 1971, its descendant’s power amplifiers differ greatly technologically but still aim for the same performance goals of pace, rhythm and timing 1974 The NAC 12 Preamplifier With a network of dedicated independent retailers now on board in the UK, the NAC 12, our first production preamplifier, was launched. 1980 Classic Advertising As Naim Audio grew in popularity through the 70s and early 80s, the team decided to grab the attention of the press and public with a series of tongue-in-cheek adverts. They reflected the confident, often unorthodox nature of our approach to music playback and have become iconic in their own right. 1983 NAIT Integrated Amplifier Naim Audio’s first integrated amplifier the NAIT introduced. This iconic little integrated amp sounded quite unlike any other integrated of its day and set a trend for so-called ‘super integrateds 1985 The Queen's Award Naim Audio is recognised with the prestigious Queen’s Award for the first time in 1985. We would go on to repeat this achievement a further two times in the 21st century, winning for Export in 2010 and for Innovation in digital music streaming in 2014. 1991 The CDS CD Player Like so many Naim Audio products, the design of our first CD player, the CDS, flew in the face of conventional wisdom. Its Two-box configuration gave the power supply its own separate enclosure and the CD clamp used a rare earth magnet to keep its mass low whilst still firmly holding the disc without vibration 2000 NAP 500 Power Amplifier The year 2000 marked a step change in Naim Audio history. After several years in development, the new flagship Naim Audio NAP 500 power amplifier was born and with it the new industrial design aesthetic that would redefine Naim Audio for the 21st century. Its music-making ability would only be bettered by the arrival of Statement in 2014.
