T+A MP 2500 R

The R-Series

The R-series is T+A’s oldest and most important product group.

First presented in the year 1992, the system’s technology, operating philosophy and appearance were immediately convincing in every respect, and we were determined to introduce revisions only when genuine improvements were possible.

The new R-series is a completely new development, and for this reason the models bear new type numbers: 2000 R for the low-profile cases, and 2500 R for the taller versions.

The series consists of the PA 2000 R integrated amplifier, the large PA 2500 R integrated amplifier, the multi-source players MP 2000 R and MP 2500 R, as well as the G 2000 R turntable.

Design Philosophy

During the initial stage of development they leaned towards the concepts, circuits and technologies which make their exclusive High-Voltage (HV) range so outstanding.

Although the R-series cases are significantly smaller, they have succeeded in realising very high output powers.

The amplifier stages are of discrete construction, and are based on the HV principle, making them extremely linear, with a very wide frequency range and outstanding transient response.

One of their aims was to achieve high output power, and this required T+A to develop a mains power supply of very high efficiency, capable of remaining totally stable even when handling peak loads.

Therefore the bass reproduction is incredibly precise and controlled independently of the used loudspeakers.

The multi-source player is their universal playback device, based on the technology of their HV series, equipped with a high quality CD transport and capable of coping with a vast range of digital music formats.

The converter section is unique: T+A True 1-Bit DSD 512 and 384 kHz PCM.

The classical analogue source is their turntable G 2000 which is available with a modified High-End Carbon tone arm from Clearaudio and a T+A cartridge.

All the devices can be operated conveniently using the system remote control handset, the radio remote control or alternatively the T+A MusicNavigator App in conjunction with the MP 2000 R MK II or the MP 2500 R multi-source player.

An Ethernet port for software updates and connection to Home Automation systems is also present.

Although the earlier range of R-series machines had already set the standard for superb quality of casework, the new series surpasses the standard once more.

The entire case, including base cradle, consists of thick-walled aluminum, its components machined from solid metal blocks and extrusions.

The external case components are meticulously brushed by hand before being given their hard-anodised finish.

The Multi Source SACD Player

The MP 2500 R is their latest and most sophisticated Multi Source Player and PCM / DSD DAC in the R-Series.

Has the same overall design philosophy and technical facilities like the smaller MP 2000 R MK II player.

Both have been developed to reproduce high-res audio files without any trace of compromise.

Instead of a CD mechanism they have equipped the MP 2500 R with the SACD drive from their High-End SACD player MP 3100 HV which is a completely new development.

As in the MP 2000 R MK II, PCM data is converted using their outstanding double differential quadruple converter with all it‘s sophisticated digital signal processing.

DSD data are handled by the unique analogue T+A true 1-bit DSD converter from the PDP 3000 HV, which processes the DSD data in native form as a bitstream rather than converting them.

This makes it possible to reproduce DSD data up to DSD 512, as delivered by the USB input of the digital connecting board, to the highest level of quality.

The machine’s streaming client takes the form of the new T+A high-res streaming board, which provides maximum resolution as well as the facility to access various music services, Internet radio, inclusion in the home network via LAN and WLAN, USB Master Mode and HD streaming from network servers.

The digital tuner offers FM, FM-HD and DAB+ capability, and delivers excellent sound.

The MP 2500 R also includes a high-quality Bluetooth streaming module for transferring music from mobile devices.

The machine is controlled using the SRC 1 infra-red remote control handset, or – ideally – the T+A MusicNavigator App.

In contrast to many manufacturers’ Apps, this is capable of controlling every element of every function of their machines.

Not only does it display the information pertaining to the streaming client, but also the screen content of all sources, such as the station name and radio text when used in FM radio mode.

SACD Drive – T+A MP 2500 R

SACD Drive - T+A MP 2500 R

It is only natural that the SACD and CD continue to lose significance, as they are increasingly superseded by streamed content; a trend reflected very clearly in the huge success of their multi-source players with their extensive streaming facilities.

However, it is clear that audiophile customers still wish to be able to play music from CD and SACD, because none of us wants to throw away our old collection, and in any case there is an undeniable charm in owning a tangible data medium.

Infact the SACD is currently experiencing what we can only term a renaissance all over the world.

Therefore they decided to develop a completely new, modern SACD mechanism incorporating the latest decoder technology, offering very short access times and outstanding error correction.

It is capable of reading CD (PCM 44.1 kSps ) and SACD (DSD 64 2.8 MHz) discs at the highest possible quality.

T+A have invested a huge amount of effort in the mechanical design of the drive unit, incorporating a high-quality drive, double laser optics and heavy-duty motors.

With the aim of eliminating all traces of interaction between the moving parts of the disc drive and the remainder of the player their disc mechanism features a mechanical isolation.

A heavy aluminium plate and a solid case, which act as a mass damping devices, thereby preventing any structural sound from the mounting surface finding its way to the electronics and the disc mechanism.

The disc drawer runs on two accurately machined stainless steel pushrods, while the disc rests in a specially coated, high-quality ABS cradle.

T+A

Actually they are scientists…. Ever since 1978 their driving force has been curiosity. T+A's aim was to define the framework of the possible, and push its limits a little further each day, and that’s what formed the stone of this company. They always aspired to the creation of new findings rather than the exploitation of existing knowledge. They were determined to carve out their own advances, and not simply follow the progress of technology. Satisfying this goal requires a team of fifteen designers and developers to create every device in their headquarters in Herford. From the initial design, developing every single circuit board and finishing with the software code – the stage which brings all the component parts together to form a grand ensemble – all devices are built in Herford. They are permeated by the belief on which this company was founded, and which drives athem forward every day. They don’t build mass products, they build accoustic treasures, they build heartbeats, goosebumps and enthusiasm.
